About

By day, I am an educator and professional development trainer. I teach READ 180 classes for middle school students in grades seventh and eighth. This is a high-tech literacy acceleration program. I am devoted to my profession and enjoy witnessing the amazing acceleration of students’ reading, writing, and technology skills.

I also train teachers in our district’s approved programs in addition to those I design myself. My specialty is integrating literacy, technology, and the arts into classroom instruction.

During my “outside of career hours,” creative interests spill out into different expressions. I understand—quite well—the struggle of balancing a demanding career with pursuing my passions as a writer, artist, musician, crafter, and digital designer.

A grueling year of Dreamweaver CS3 lessons resulted in my first website, www.jodeelunainnovations; an educational technology site providing resources for students, parents, and teachers.

My ambition is to self-publish several of the books I have written. My intent is to leave a legacy to  my children and students rather than strive to become a well-known author. Of course my hope is that others benefit as well. I created www.refrainfromtheidentical.com, a creativity site, as a springboard for this future project.

I also envision donating proceeds from my book sales to a nonprofit brewing in my heart to start. The purpose would be to fund literacy ventures for children within the United States and around the world.

I am happily married to Justin Luna, an avid amateur photographer. Together we trek off to capture nature’s splendor and return to indulge in Photoshop projects. Our four wonderful children, by marriage, are also creative  and spending time with them is definitely one of life’s highlights.

Before I became a teacher, I enjoyed fifteen years of professional ministry working half of that time within the United States and the other half internationally. I also created and co-owned an arts and crafts business with my sister , Gina. I have so many muses in my life but my favorites are the precious women in my family.

Hi Sissy, I’ve reading your blog, but wasn’t sure how to comment. I love the article about Monique and Josiah, and all the pictures. Can I print those pics from here by downdoading them? Also, the masks are awesome! I’d love to make one next time the girls are visiting.
